- Perhaps you didn’t realize that there
are professional storytellers making an excellent living doing
what they do and loving every minute of it.
- You want to know more about what it takes to

Who is Chris King, anyway?
I, Chris King of Creative
Keys, have been a professional storyteller and have
lived a freelance lifestyle for more than 18 years. A human
development specialist, artist, storyteller, trainer, consultant,
web site designer, TV announcer, model, mathematician, marketing
manager, newspaper editor, salesperson, waitress, writer,
speaker and mother of five are some of the personas that have
given me creative expertise and lots of material for my presenting,
writing and storytelling. |

What
Is Unique about "How to Get Started as a Professional Storyteller"
At this point, you are wondering,
“How and why can this E-book help me any more than any of
the other books written about Storytelling?
Yes, I recommend many other books that
are excellent and filled with great information. The main
differences between my E-book and the others are:
- Attitude. I know for a fact
that no matter where you fit now, you have what it takes to become
motivated, inspired and a SUCCESSFUL Storyteller.
If I can believe in you, you can believe it too, and achieve it
as long as you commit to taking the steps and investing the time
and effort.
- Experiences. You will live
my experiences and the experiences of the three well known Professional
Storytellers I interviewed for the book.
- Simple Truths. Rather than
writing what I think you want to read and hear, I have written
about the way it is - at least, in my opinion and the result of
years of storytelling study. I have worked hard to focus on the
basics - making complex ideas easy to grasp.
- Personal Stories. You
will find personal stories intertwined throughout. You will learn
that stories add interest and are easily internalized and remembered.
Stories reach into the hearts of our listeners and readers. They
show them and us that we are human.

What It’s Like (Really) To Be a
Professional Storyteller
- Developing your unique style.
- Who Else is doing this?
- How much can you earn?

Meet a Few Professional Storytellers - I interviewed three
Professional Storytellers : Dianne de Las Casas from Harvey,
Louisiana, Donald Davis from Ocracoke Island off the North Carolina
Coast, and Heather Forest from Huntington, New York.
The questions I asked each were:
- How did you become a storyteller and
then a professional storyteller?
- What kind of schedule do you have?
- What do you like most about being a
professional storyteller?
- Is there anything you don’t
like about being a professional storyteller?
- What are your biggest challenges as
a professional storyteller?
- Why do you continue being a professional
storyteller?
- What would you do differently if starting
over as a professional storyteller?
Background and Training
Each of my interviewees had valuable, but not
always "formal" storytelling training. Dianne's suggestion
mirrored the thoughts of all: "I would recommend that every
aspiring storyteller start by learning more about storytelling —
read books about storytelling, join a guild, join a national organization
like the National Storytelling Network, research the Internet, attend
conferences, festivals, and workshops, and tell stories often, anywhere
and everywhere you can."
Best Ways to Break In (short excerpt)
Many storytellers start either as volunteers or
as part of their jobs — for example, teachers, librarians,
ministers, rabbis, social workers, counselors, and read-aloud volunteers.
Once they have decided, however, to become professional storytellers,
they must commit to a high level of effort, study, and time devoted
to practice.

Your Game Plan
The nine necessary steps you will need to
take on your journey to becoming a Professional Storyteller.
Some final words: Storytelling
has experienced a rebirth and resurgence during the past 35 to 40
years. Professional storytellers are in demand. There are professional
storytellers performing all over the world on stages, in schools,
at libraries, and at important events. It takes a lot more, however,
than just loving to tell stories. It takes talent, discipline, uniqueness,
preparation, tenacity, creativity, and integrity. Even though a
good storyteller is always welcomed, a professional storyteller
must also approach storytelling as a business if he or she wants
to make a living.
And,
that is just a quick, down and dirty synopsis of what you
will find in each of the fully packed sections. There is much, much
more. I want to remind you that I am as close as my e-mail address
